  About MCACC
Our History begins with four members of the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens "Hut Group" of artists who recognised a need in the community for an Art and Craft Centre. They worked together to promote the concept and called a Public Meeting on 21st May 1991 to gauge the interest of the community. The people gave their support and a Committee was formed.

The original four ladies suggested testing the viability of a shop to sell the handmade art and craft items made by the members. A shop in Maxwell Street was rented and a three months trial began. The four Members used their own money for the trial and when it was established and proved to be viable the shop was handed over to the Community on 1st August 1991 and became the Myall Community Art and Craft Centre.

Fundraising began, and on 2nd February 1993 the Federal Government gave a grant of $26,000.00 for a transportable building to be used as a meeting place.

On 28th April 1993 permission was given for this funding to be used on our behalf by The Great Lakes Council to build the Art and Craft Centre in conjunction with the new district Council Office and Information Centre. With the grant of $26,000.00, fundraising of $6,000.00 and a loan from the ANZ Bank for $19,999.00, we had a new Craft Centre at a total cost of $52,000.00. (This loan was paid out on 17th April 1996.) On 11th December 1993 the shop closed and was incorporated into the new Craft Centre.

On 27th January 1995 a "Deed of Agreement" was made between The Great Lakes Council and the Myall Community Art and Craft Centre Incorporated on the exclusive use and management of the Centre by the members of the Myall Community Art and Craft Centre. This was extended on 28th May 1996 to cover the second extension.

In consultation with, and cooperation from Great Lakes Council, a second extension was planned. A grant from the State Government of $24,000.00 plus a loan of $34,000.00 from the ANZ Bank made it possible and the second extension was completed on 21st December 1996 for a cost of $67,000.00. (Last payment on this loan was June 2002)

Due to an increase in membership and an encouraging interest from the men in our community it became necessary to enlarge the woodworking machinery area and provide a third work room. We began the process by applying for and receiving a $40,000 Grant from the NSW Governments 2003 Capital Infrastructure Program. We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Government for their assistance without which the third extension would not have been possible. The $40,000 Grant plus $15,000 from member's funds and a $25,000 loan from the Holiday Coast Credit Union made it possible to build the extension which was opened by the State Members for Myall Lakes the Hon John Turner MP on Saturday 3rd April 2004.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR MEMBERS PAST AND PRESENT WHO CAN BE JUSTIFIABLY PROUD OF THEIR CENTRE AND WHAT THEY HAVE ACHIEVED.
